What Are The Benefits of Article Marketing?

By odie | September 11, 2008

Articles are an exceptionally effective way to market your business, provided your readers find your article well written, educational, and enjoyable. However, your articles must, first and foremost, benefit your readers before you can expect anything in return.

In general, people don’t like to be “sold” to, which is why article marketing is such a successful promotional tool. Providing good information on topics of interest within your niche is the perfect way to give your market what they’re looking for, and in doing so, you will build a valuable and profitable relationship.

How does a relationship with your readers benefit you?

- Credibility: Supplying your market with articles that help them become more knowledgeable, will ultimately establish you and your business as an authority figure in their minds. This can lead to referrals and a great reputation.

- Trust: By setting yourself up as an expert in your field, your readers will come to trust you and continue to go to you in search of the answers to their questions. Consequently, you will acquire a following of people who have come to value you. That means that you won’t have to go out and hunt people down; your market is continually coming to you.

- Profits: Once you become recognized in your niche and you’ve gained the trust of your readers, the value in your opinions and recommendations will naturally follow. As someone who is well thought-of, you’re market is more likely to buy from you, as opposed to the competition.

Articles have the capacity to develop relationships with the people you want to sell to, without the “cold calling” approach that often fails.

With that said, article marketing is far more than just a means to build relationships; it also benefits you when it’s utilized as what I refer to as the “behind-the-scenes technical instrument.”

Okay, so what does that mean?

Well, this so called “behind-the-scenes technical instrument” is simply the power of article marketing at work in the background. Search engines thrive on content, and articles is one of the best ways to get your website indexed, and ranked by the search engines.

Believe it or not, research conducted by the PEW Internet and American Life Project found that 60 million out of the 94 million American adults using the Internet on an average day use a search engine to find that information.

With people hitting the Internet in search of information more than anything else, and using the search engines to find that information, getting your website listed is a crucial phase of your marketing campaign.

When someone goes to a search engine like Google and types in a keyword or phrase, it will bring up the listings of all the websites using those keywords and phrases. The higher your web pages get ranked, the more likely it is that you will draw a greater number of visitors to your website. For a business owner, increased traffic can represent more sales.

This is where articles come into play. By targeting specific keywords for your market, you can use them throughout your article. However, you must be careful not to keyword stuff or over use the jargon of your subject, because this could be seen as an attempt to game the search engines and have the opposite effect that you are looking for - write with a natural flow and sprinkle keywords in where they fit well.
